See our FacebookUnfortunately, we were beaten to it today when there was a false alarm during lunchtime. This meant the children had not had the usual reminder or preparation beforehand. However, they were absolutely brilliant. They listened carefully to staff and followed instructions to evacuate the building and playgrounds safely, making their way quickly and calmly to their designated muster points. We could not have asked any more of them.
Everyone was safely accounted for and, within five minutes, the children were back enjoying their lunches and playtime as normal.
We appreciate that some children may mention the alarm when they come home today, so we wanted to let you know what had happened and reassure you that there was no fire or other emergency. Most importantly, we were incredibly proud of the calm and sensible way the children responded to an unexpected situation.

Here are a few things we have been up to at Mendip Green this week...
EYFS have worked so hard to make progress in their early phonics! They have worked hard at learning new graphemes, blending them to read 2 and 3 letter words as well as exploring some new sight words. Busy, busy, busy!
This week, Year 1 have been writing their new sight words in their phonics and handwriting books. They were excellent at remembering how to write these words and we found them together on our sight words mats.
In art this week, Year 2 have been looking very carefully at insects and drawing them with detail.
Year 3 have been developing their gymnastics skills over the past 5 weeks. This week, they have been practising bench bunny hopping and jumping off low aparatus in unison.
We have been learning about the Roman Republic in Year 4! This week we learned about the different types of people who lived in Rome at the time. There were the patricians, whose ancestors were the first 100 senators. They were wealthy, owned slaves and wore togas. Then there was the plebeians who were not descended from the 100 senators and so were not as respected. Can you guess which children are the patricians and which are the plebeians?
Year 5 have been using counters to create arrays when learning about square numbers this week! Their knowledge of factors, multiples and now square numbers is astounding!
Year 6 love their time in the library! We're very lucky having such a wonderful library, full of brilliant texts.
This week, Blossom Room have started to explore storytelling and acting with their new Scribe to Stage lessons.
Acorn children have been exploring their outside area. The sand is definitely a favourite.
Pupdates: Dot and Mouse have been doing a lot of napping recently. We are going to have to make them work a lot harder for their salary of sausages and doggy treats 🐶 🐾
